DIRECTIONS

Leave the M6 at Exit 36, South Lakes turn off.  Take the A591 bypassing Kendal and Windermere, towards Ambleside.

At Waterhead traffic lights, turn left onto the A593 for about a mile, this will take you around the head of the lake, passing Ambleside rugby Club, turn left, follow the road over Rothay Bridge and onto Clappersgate, turn left on to the B5286, signposted to Hawkshead passing over a stone bridge.

Follow this road for about two miles,
shortly after Skelwith Fold Caravan Park,
turn right at the sign for the
Drunken Duck Inn/Tarn Hows.

It is approx ¾ mile to The Drunken duck,
continue straight on and follow the road for
approx another mile.  Turn left onto a single
width lane leading to Knipe Fold.  At the next
junction Pepper Cottage is straight ahead of you.

HAWKSHEAD and surrounding area.

The villiage of Hawkshead is approx 1 mile from Pepper Cottage, explore some of the alleyways and ‘yards’ often ringed by pretty traditional cottages.  Nearby Esthwaite Water is small and tranquil.

Ambleside is only a short and picturesque drive away, as is Bowness which can be accessed via a car ferry, which is well worth a trip.  The areas most famous daughter is Beatrix Potter, and you can visit her home ‘Hilltop’ in Near Sawrey.
